The first morning of the holidays

Hi,

First of all - sorry I havent posted in a while , but thank you to my sister who reminded me that I have been meaning to post for a week or so now.
So my sister, had a really cool bit of surgery recently and it really is a true demonstration of just how far medicine and surgery has come in the last 50 years. She managed to destroy the cartiledge in her knee through a sports injury, and she had surgery to replace this as they took a sample of some stem cells and they grew new cartiledge from them which should hopefully mean they wont be rejected but its just cool that they can take stem cells which can be anything as they are un-differentiated and replace bits of someones body with a lower risk of rejection...very snazzy if you ask me.
Also I have gained my B Class driving licence and I am now getting the paperwork sorted for my C1 provisional, which is a 7.5 tonne licence (Im excited and scared) as a 5ft 3' female this seems like a massive jump! and to anyone who has done the training out there can anyone suggest any good driving school? I have looked at Wallace' and KW and Daughters who all seem helpful and friendly, yet the licence is very expensive in some cases £1000 and thats not including the medicals for the provisional that a GP will charge you to fill out.
Whilst we are on the subject of GP's, I was recently told about something that is being planned in voluntary ambulance groups, and that is that all members will have to get a Hep B vaccine. They will cover the first £100 of the charge from a GP but people have been quoted around £200 for it. In addition to the cost there is the priviledge of having to be stabbed once every so often for immunity tests. I know Hep B is once of the most commonly transmitted blood bourne viruses but is it really neccessary?
I still havent heard anything back from the university but from what I have heard they are interviewing around 700 candidates which is tough for 25 places of there abouts. I have also applied for the direct route to EEAS through the NHS jobs site which is also around 25 places and it has been received with great interest so its gonna be very competetive as these routes are rare now, but they are trying to get as many new Paramedic's trained and into the system as quickly as possible.
So has anyone else got anything interesting to say ??

Will have to dash the dog needs a walk!

So...

Hi,

So since my last post I passed my admissions tests for Northampton which is good, but Im still waiting on a yes or no from them they said if I dont hear anything its a good thing so I can only presume this is a good thing since the interview was back in November. So jumping at the sound of the postman now since they said I'd probably hear by March.
Got my driving test tomorrow which will also be a big impact on whether they accept me on to the course or not since I will then need a C1 since we do an advanced driving module. Please let me pass.
Im up and down the county tomorrow Chelmsford in the morning then Rayleigh in the afternoon to go get a sleeping bag and then Maldon in the evening since I have finally settled with an SJA division there.

Northampton

Hi,

So my last post consisted of me saying that Northampton had asked me to come to an interview...soo I passed both admissions tests and got through to interview stages (which was quick intense) which I am happy with ..apparently I should hear soon if I have been rejected but hopefully not. I think the course only accepts 30 in one year and its a 2 year fully funded foundation course which would be an achievement if I got accepted.
So have to wait and see

A slight Hitch

Hello,

Ok so I have some bad news and good news....Canterbury Christ Church and Greenwich have said my application was unsuccessful which is a shame. But on the upside I have an interview with Northampton On Tuesday the 27th which I hope will go well since they are my last option. So has anyone been and studied at Northampton? and if so what's it like?

Uni Replies

Morning,

So I have had some feedback from Canterbury Christchurch and Greenwich university, we will start with Canterbury they have sent me an encouraging email telling me that they have my application and are reviewing it and Greenwich have sent me an email saying to make a final decision on my application they need to know if I have passed my test and if I have a C1 catergory or whether I have a test booked if not....exciting times.
Anyone else had any universities replies?

Good News

Morning,

So my UCAS application was finally sent a week ago and then yesterday my 1st choice of university sent me a very reassuring email saying that they have received my application and that I should keep my eye on my "Track"- Im still waiting from my post from UCAS to arrive so I can get into the thing....cannot wait more excited about this than my 18th or christmas .....sad isnt it.
I have just applied for a 999 call handler vacancy through NHS jobsite ...in a round about kinda way I hope they might at least invite me for an interview and not just bin my application asap...or I might at least hear from them this time as I have applied 3 times for jobs and only 1/3 have I heard back.
In completely unrelated news I was on the radio after my team of four won the Gepps Law debate in Chelmsford (for the 4th year running) and so we were invited on to BBC Essex with Dave Monk for a 20 min interview (which sent well to say the least) I was on the 19th after the 2hr mark - have a listen if you want (I have been told that I sound scripted) it wasnt in actual fact.
Its nice to see all of the views for the page are steadily (yet surely) rising I hope this page is helping some aspiring Paramedics out there :)

Right must run

Afternoon

Good afternoon,

Despite the delay in blogging there has in fact been a lot going on.....so where to start

1) I have sent off my UCAS application for university to study Paramedic science I have applied for Canterbury Christchurch Medway, the two Greenwich Campus' and for Northampton ...sounds like a good start.

Now after all of the calm after V-festival, clacton airshow and the international scout jamboree things with St John Ambulance are starting to come to a slow, now all of the regionalisation plans are in place things also seem to be returning to normal...which seems to be good.

So did anyone see the story in the news today about the 95 year old lady suffering with severe abdo pain that sadly later passed away...so any opions, and whether the idea of "seeing the sickest quickest" has worked in this case..it will be interesting to see the outcome.  (see the link below)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2211600/I-want-die-Scream-pensioner-95-waited-hours-ambulance-passing-away.html

Im starting to read the Paramedic case books to look for scenarios this seems to be improving my knowledge -any ideas on what is asked at a Paramedic science interview?? or what is expected-would be great to hear from some of you guys that are reading out there!

Right must go ...catch you later :)
